The end of August a LOT of my time consisted of filling out
applications, compiling letters of recommendation, updating my resume, responding
to short-answer questions, writing essays, and all the other nitty-gritty aspects
of applying for child life practicums/internships.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to have everything put together
for internship applications – however that’s okay because most internships want
applicants who have completed a practicum, something I have yet to do.
My practicum applications did make it in on time and I was
NERVOUS! Being a participant in a child life practicum is the next step in my
journey to become a Child Life Specialist. A couple weeks ago, got a phone call
to set up a phone interview for a practicum position at Inova Children’s
Hospital – I was speechless! Luckily I was able to utter some words and set up
a time for the interview. I was nervous for the interview, wanting to do my
best, and literally ended up studying for 2 days in preparation!
Monday, I got the call I had been waiting for -- I was accepted!!!
I am officially a child life practicum
student at Inova Children’s Hospital for winter semester! I couldn’t be
happier!
Child life is a very competitive field, and sometimes I have felt there is no way I could achieve my goal. Well getting the practicum position proved that wrong! It was so nice to see all my hard work beginning to pay off. Plus the practicum will help me get an internship – which is required to become certified – ultimately helping me achieve my goal of becoming a Child Life Specialist!
