Getting to DC!

Moving across the country is a BIG ordeal. Maybe not for experienced movers, or for people working on a bigger budget, but it was definitely for us. Chad and I spent countless hours researching the best way to move so far. We decided to use a pod instead of a moving truck, and it was so nice! The pod came a couple of weeks before we moved. We packed everything up, loaded it in the pod and after a couple of hours it was picked up and on its way to Virginia. Easy peasy!

Then there was the matter of our car and ourselves. Chad had to be in DC the week of my finals. Obviously it wasn’t going to work out for us to drive together. We made a plan for him to drive out with his parents, visit grandparents along the way and make it to DC a couple of days before his orientation started. Unforeseen events took place and Chad’s parents couldn’t make the first leg of the journey with him. It was a blessing in disguise because Chad and I got to go on a road trip together!

This road trip took place the weekend before finals and law school orientation. It was an adventure! We journeyed 1,435 miles together and then I ended up back at the same place our journey had begun. The reason for such a trip? To have fun of course! And to move across the country. Because Chad had law school orientation the same days I had my finals we had to be creative in accomplishing our move. The results: I drove with Chad to Nauvoo, Illinois to say a quick hello and good-bye to his parents and then together we continue to St. Louis where I ditch the bandwagon while Chad and his parents continue eastward towards DC. And it worked out! Everything went very smoothly.

Chad and I enjoyed our little road trip together. There’s nothing quite like being stuck in a car with your husband for a 20+ hour drive. It was so much fun to be able to chat without any distractions, jam to music, car dance, listen to a book together, and watch miles and miles of corn fields pass by.

On the second day we stopped in Des Moines, Iowa, for lunch. One of the law schools that had been on our list is located in Des Moines and we thought it might be fun to eat at a restaurant unique to the city. After looking up restaurants we were about to eat at Zombie Burger, but then we spotted a Jimmy John’s and a sandwich just sounded so much better. But we did discover Zombie Burger and hear that its good if anybody is ever in Des Moines.

After visiting with Chad’s parents we drove to St. Louis for me to catch a flight back to Salt Lake. This was the first time that Chad and I had been apart since we got married. It was WEIRD! Seriously, I felt like I was missing my partner in crime. I was missing my go to person. I couldn’t wait to get done with finals and be with him again. My finals went well and I was so happy to get them over with! It’s nice knowing I only have 19 credits left to finish my undergrad. I’m so close! J

My flight to DC was GREAT! Why? For a number of reasons, just see my advice below.

The fourth bullet is definitely a must. Anyways, hope all is well!
